Fashion weeks have been a thing ranging from international to local. This has always been a way to appreciate fashion and creative designers in the industry. This year brought about beautiful, creative ideas from fashion designers, embodying of course African style and heritage. From Lagos to Port Harcourt, to Uyo, fashion weeks 2024 was a different vibe altogether. Here are a few recaps of local fashion week;
Lagos Fashion Week
The Lagos Fashion Week Themed COMMUNE, kicked off on the 23rd and lasted till the 27th of October 2024. This fashion week centered on the diversity, sustainability and innovative africentric design. The event was held at the John Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture & History.
Highlights of Lagos FW
The event featured:
1. Runway shows and presentations featuring new season collections from designers like;
Ugo Monye’s collection, which kicked off with Nigerian music sensation Davido on the runway. Showcasing Aso oke fabrics.
Oshobor’s “Edo Odion”: Celebrating Edo’s culture. Etc
2. Panel discussions
3. The Heineken 45CL launch, which featured a collaborative collection between the brand and Nigerian designers
4. The Green Access finalists, who debuted collections developed through mentorship focused on responsible production and sourcing practices.
The theme COMMUNE celebrated the collaborative spirit of Africa’s fashion ecosystem, honoring designers and the many people who contribute to the process.

Uyo Fashion Week
Uyo Fashion Week 2024, held from September 20–22 at Ibom Hall, was a vibrant celebration of creativity, innovation, and cultural fusion. The event marked its third season and coincided with the 37th anniversary of Akwa Ibom State. It showcased the works of emerging and established designers from across Nigeria and international participants, further solidifying Uyo’s position as a fashion hub.
The event brought together Fashionpreneurs, Industry Experts, Business Moguls, Public Sector policy drivers and a plethora of youth across the State.
Highlight of Uyo FW
The event featured;
1. Celebrities in other sector of entertainment from Uyo and other states across Nigeria. The likes of Ik Ogbonna, Chidi Mokeme, Richard Mofe Damijo, Ini Edo, Nancy Isime, and the ex big brother naija housemate Emmanuel Umoh…. all attend the Uyo FW.
2. Runway.

Port Harcourt Fashion Week
This event, a part of fashion in Nigeria, first took place in 2013 and it continues to be jointly organized by Neo Mantra Ltd and Bruno Creazioni Company. The event lasts three days. Its principal sponsor is the Rivers State government. This years Fashion Week was held at the arztech arcum centre in Port Harcourt. The theme for this year’s FW was “Fashion Forward, Future ready”.
The Fashion Week is intended for local and international fashion models and designers to display their talents. It also provides emerging designers a platform to develop their creative expressions.
Since its initiation in 2013, the annual event has showcased several of Africa’s top designers such as Paul Van Zyl, Adebayo Jones, Frank Osodi, Ituen Basi and Mai Atafo.
Former Miss World, Agbani Darego has served as host for the international exhibition.
