Born Inetimi Alfred Odom popularly known as Timaya hails from Egberi, Bayelsa state. He is an afrobeats sensation, singer, songwriter and the founder of DEM MAMA RECORDS. Born on the 15th of August 1977 in Port Harcourt, Rivers state, the 44 years old has for long gained stand in the Nigerian music industry with valuable achievements to show for it.
His breakthrough single dem mama came in 2005 after he completely served as a back up singer to a Nigerian gospel artist at the time, Eedris Abdulkareem. This song which passed it’s socio political message about the destruction of his hometown at the time during a military attack, was mixed with an infectious sound that resonated with the public and made him a house hold name.
In 2007, he released his first studio album ‘True story’ which featured his 2005 hit single Dem mama. And since then, he has gone ahead to release 8 studio albums and 1 Extend play (EP) with viral hit songs.
Fondly called Papi Chulo, he has featured other notable afrobeats stars such as Olamide, Patoranking and international stars like Sean Paul. His music record label also have produced an under dog artist, King Perry.
Timaya is regarded as one of the pioneers of Nigerian dancehall and Afro-dancehall fusion as he’s one of the longest standing artist in the industry spanning 15 years now. But recently, there’s been a controversy around him….

Recently, Timaya has made headlines for airing his candid views on marriage and co-parenting, and his role as a father to his four kids.
In a recent interview with Naija FM which was posted on YouTube on the 2nd of December 2024, the Cold outside crooner said “i have never been of the idea of getting married because I value my freedom and dislike stress”. However, he didn’t completely rule out the possibility of getting married in the future as he added “maybe my idea about marriage can change”.
He also revealed that his four kids from different mothers often visit him especially during festive periods like Christmas.
