Whenever you hear the intro “It’s Don Jazzy again,” or “Don Jazzy,” one’s mind is immediately drawn to the Mavins record label owner, Don Jazzy. Arguably, almost every Nigerian knows the name, but not many people know the personality behind the name.
Don Jazzy, real name Michael Collins Ajereh, is a seasoned jack of many trades. A media personality; a singer; a songwriter; a producer; a record label owner; a social media influencer and many more.
Born on 26 November 1982 in Umuahia, Abia State, on 26 November 1982, the son of Collins Enebeli Ajereh and Mrs Ajereh. His father is from the Isoko tribe in Delta State, while his mother is an Igbo princess from Abia State.
Born to parents of different tribes, this probably explains the reason for his versatility, Don Jazzy had already shown interest in music from the age of 12. Little wonder then when, in 2004, he collaborated with D’Banj to form the famous Mo’Hits Records.
Although the record label eventually came to an end in March 2012, the music industry felt the impact of this record label. From numerous street jams to stellar albums (Mushin to Mo’Hits is still credited as one of the best albums to ever come out of Nigeria), the record label was a force to be reckoned with, then.
